Waterproof does not mean sweat free
Breathable membranes move moisture only when temperature and humidity differences allow it. During hard effort, opening vents, slowing the pace, and removing insulation can matter more than a higher laboratory rating.
Fit controls real protection
A shell that pulls tight across shoulders, exposes wrists, blocks vision, or cannot cover insulation will perform poorly regardless of fabric. Test reach, hood movement, pockets, cuffs, and the hem with the actual midlayer and pack.
Care is part of performance
Dirt and body oils reduce performance, while the face fabric's water-repellent finish can wear down. Follow the manufacturer's wash and renewal instructions rather than assuming a wet-looking outer fabric means the membrane has failed.
