From behind the site
A focused, independent project
Western Mile is independently built and edited from the Pacific Northwest. It is deliberately smaller than a travel marketplace or outdoor retailer: the goal is to help you make a few good decisions and leave with a usable plan, not keep you browsing.
Why it exists
A straightforward outdoor trip can still require separate searches for a destination, campsite, forecast, road access, packing list, and suitable gear. Western Mile brings those decisions into one planning path for people who want practical help without unnecessary complexity.
What you can expect
- Focused choices, explained. Destination and product options should include a clear fit reason and an honest tradeoff.
- Changing facts linked to their source. Weather, access, reservations, permits, and regulations should lead to the responsible agency or provider.
- Useful before commercial. Borrowing, using what you own, or choosing a less expensive option can be the right recommendation.
- Uncertainty stated plainly. The site should not imply that availability, conditions, or product performance were verified when they were not.
- First-hand evidence labeled. Personal visits, original photographs, and field testing are identified only when they can be documented; otherwise the guidance remains clearly research-based.
How guides are built
Articles publish under the Western Mile name, which identifies the accountable publisher. Planning guidance uses official sources for changing rules and conditions. Gear recommendations separate manufacturer specifications from independent evidence and editorial judgment, and they show research status and limitations instead of pretending every product was personally tested.
What the site does not claim
Western Mile is not a park authority, weather service, booking platform, retailer, guide service, or substitute for appropriate training and judgment. A product is not labeled Field Tested unless that testing actually occurred and can be documented. Current availability and conditions must still be confirmed with the linked provider before departure.
How the project is funded
Western Mile does not currently earn commissions from product links. If affiliate relationships are introduced, qualifying links will be identified clearly. Payment or product availability will not determine the planning criteria, comparison categories, recommendation order, or stated tradeoffs used in the guides.
